Reading Rail Pastors started back in December 2015 at the request of the British Transport Police Inspector Matt Alingham & working with Great Western Railways.
After an observation with the Barnet Rail Pastors, the volunteers who were already Street Pastors attended extra training with Samaritans. The teams have been going out on a weekly basis since 2015 then apart from in Covid. We always said if we could save one person’s life then it was worth us going out and that has happened. Where there have been incidences at stations the teams have been able to go out either the same day or the next day to support the staff & general public.
The volunteers also go out on extra patrols for Royal Ascot, Henley Regatta and also Reading Festival where they are at the Station to welcome the festival goers & signpost them in the right direction.
It is a small team of very faithful volunteers, last year they went out 71 times in total Caring, Listening & Helping.
